For schools, Vitality is curriculum- and teacher-training-based, with access to the Vitality On-Demand library for self-care tools.

The research behind it

The Vitality Project is research-informed, drawing from established workplace wellness principles, educational practices and behavior-change concepts.

For beauty-industry-specific data, we reference independent research from Pivot Point International on beauty professionals, students and educators. Their research and findings are their own and are linked here as an industry resource.

Students who feel good. Schools that do good.

Wellness is part of student success

Beauty students and educators are navigating significant mental, emotional, physical and social challenges.

Pivot Point International’s research found that 88% of students and 87% of instructors surveyed reported personal wellness challenges, with respondents also reporting effects on areas such as motivation, academic performance, job satisfaction and classroom dynamics.

Vitality gives schools practical tools for supporting well-being alongside technical education, helping students and educators build skills they can carry through school and into their careers.

Wellness does not replace great education. It helps create an environment where people are better supported to learn, teach and grow.

Built from inside the beauty industry

About founder Elizabeth Faye

Elizabeth Faye is a hairdresser turned trauma-informed life coach whose career has included working as a beauty professional, teaching in beauty school and owning, scaling and selling her salon.

She is the founder of Hair Love University, where over the past 10 years she has taught more than 30,000 paying clients through programs, professional certifications and more than 27 retreats. She has also spent nearly a decade in intensive private coaching and consulting, from business and leadership consulting to one-on-one life and health coaching.

Her work has expanded into workplace wellness and culture consulting, supporting organizations, leaders, sales teams, educators and trainers. Her retreats and private coaching have explored healing and leadership at a depth that extends beyond the curriculum taught inside The Vitality Project.

Elizabeth’s certifications and broader training span trauma-informed coaching, NLP, EFT tapping, somatic breathwork, nervous-system education, sound and frequency practices, inner-child work, health coaching, meditation, visualization and mindset. These areas inform the depth of her perspective, while The Vitality Project itself remains an educational, non-clinical workplace-wellness program with a clearly defined scope.

Normal everywhere else

Workplace wellness isn’t new. Bringing it to beauty is.

Large employers have invested in workplace wellness for decades. Depending on the organization, that can include education, employee assistance resources, mindfulness, fitness, financial wellness, leadership development, culture initiatives, surveys and other forms of employee support.

Most independent salons, spas and beauty schools have never had the HR departments, budgets or infrastructure to build those systems themselves.

That’s the gap The Vitality Project was created to fill.

We take familiar workplace-wellness principles and adapt them for the realities of beauty: service-based work, physical demands, emotionally intimate client relationships, classrooms, clinic floors, independent professionals and small teams.

Vitality makes that infrastructure accessible without requiring a beauty business to build a wellness department of its own.

The science behind it

What this is, and what it is not

The Vitality Project is intentionally educational and non-clinical.

Our goal is to give beauty professionals practical wellness education, skills, tools and community while keeping medical and mental health care where it belongs: with appropriately qualified professionals.

It is

  • Workplace wellness education and skills training
  • Practical tools for stress, communication, boundaries and career longevity
  • General well-being education and practices
  • Peer community and non-clinical coaching
  • Culture and wellness systems organizations can integrate into everyday operations
  • General wellness check-ins and organizational insights

It is not

  • Therapy, counseling or clinical mental health care
  • Diagnosis or treatment of medical or mental health conditions
  • Medical, psychological or psychiatric advice
  • Crisis intervention
  • A substitute for licensed professional care
  • A tool for making employment, disciplinary or academic decisions based on someone’s health

These boundaries are intentional. When someone’s needs fall outside Vitality’s educational and coaching scope, we encourage appropriate professional support and provide access to relevant mental health and crisis resources.

Mental health resources

Participation + privacy

Built to support people, not evaluate them.

Vitality is a wellness education and culture program, not an employee or student medical assessment.

Wellness participation and information should not be used to diagnose or label individuals or to discriminate against them.

Individual wellness information is not intended to be used for hiring, firing, promotion, discipline or academic decisions.

Where organizational insights are provided, the purpose is to help leaders better understand broad wellness and culture needs and make informed decisions about programming and support.

Where the teachings come from

The Vitality Project’s methodologies are uniquely ours: intuitive, creative and built specifically for the realities of the beauty industry. They have been shaped through more than 10 years of teaching and running these programs with over 30,000 paying clients, supported by a growing body of success stories.

While the way we bring these ideas together is original to Vitality, our practices are rooted in established areas of wellness education, coaching, psychology, mindfulness and behavior change. The foundations below show what we draw from and how we adapt them into appropriate, non-clinical tools for beauty professionals.

Somatic-informed education

Body-awareness practices and education about the science of the nervous system can help people recognize physical sensations, stress responses and patterns in how they experience challenging moments.

How we use it: non-clinical practices including breathwork, grounding, mindful movement, nervous-system awareness and body-based self-regulation tools.

Polyvagal-informed education

Some Vitality lessons draw from concepts associated with Polyvagal Theory as one framework for discussing stress, connection and nervous-system states.

How we use it: educational concepts and general wellness practices such as breathing, grounding and self-awareness. We do not use Polyvagal Theory diagnostically or as clinical treatment.

CBT-informed educational tools

Vitality uses non-clinical concepts associated with cognitive and behavioral skill-building, such as noticing thought patterns, questioning unhelpful thinking and practicing constructive coping strategies.

How we use it: educational exercises that encourage reflection, reframing, communication and practical problem-solving. Vitality does not provide Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Reframing + purpose work

Coaching frameworks can help people examine a challenge from different levels—including environment, behavior, capabilities, beliefs, values, identity and purpose—and identify where change may begin.

How we use it: Robert Dilts’ Logical Levels model, values and purpose work, reflective questioning, perspective-taking and non-clinical reframing to help people expand their mindset and make more intentional choices.

Mindfulness + habit building

Mindful awareness creates space to notice patterns, while repetition and supportive structure can make new behaviors easier to practice.

How we use it: intentions, repetition, habit stacking, reflection, progress tracking and practical life skills that support sustainable personal and professional habits.

Communication, coaching + leadership

Soft skills help people listen, ask better questions, navigate conflict, give feedback and lead with greater awareness.

How we use it: coaching conversations, active listening, communication practice, conflict-resolution tools, feedback and leadership development.

Psychological safety + belonging

Healthy cultures make room for people to speak, ask questions, contribute, learn and feel that they matter.

How we use it: shared norms, check-ins, recognition, inclusive communication and culture-building practices that support trust, connection and belonging.

Experiential learning, play + gamification

People often understand and remember ideas more deeply when they can see, hear, feel, discuss and practice them—especially when learning includes play, humor and meaningful interaction.

How we use it: gamification, sensory cues, interactive activities, storytelling, reflection and shared experiences that deepen connection. Vitality education is designed to create a retreat-like experience in every learning moment, not simply deliver information.

Wellness belongs at work. It should be part of how we live, learn and lead.

Clinical care belongs with clinicians. The Vitality Project helps organizations create healthier cultures through education, practical skills, community and workplace wellness systems.

We teach educators and leaders to be teachers, not therapists—and to coach, not counsel. Vitality does not diagnose, treat or replace professional medical or mental health care.

Our role is to make everyday well-being part of the way beauty professionals learn, work and build their careers.
